L'Abbatoir: Where Brunch Dreams Come True

If you Google "best brunch in Vancouver", L'Abbatoir is bound to pop up in the search and last weekend, I finally found out why. Ask for a seat in the glass-encased atrium which is beautifully lit with natural lighting and covered with a beautiful mosaic of tiles (which make for great flatlays). Brunch is featured on weekends from 10 AM - 2 PM.

Taking over the original Bao Down spot in Gastown is Edwards Seafood, a cozy San Francisco seafood inspired eatery which showcases the best of sustainable and lesser-known BC seafood. They also exclusively serve 49th Parallel beer by the can which is also used in the batter for the fish in many dishes. Excuse me as I type the rest of this post while drooling.

Blacktail Restaurant + Lounge

I still remember when Blacktail just opened in Vancouver as Blacktail Florist and looking at the preview of the menu. Back then, I was already amazed at the creativity of the menu items and introduction of Scandinavian flavours but was deeply disappointed when it didn't fare so well with the crowd. Fast forward a few months and they were rebranded as Blacktail Restaurant + Lounge with a whole new modern concept which has proven to be successful.

Shirakawa

Did you know about Gastown's Japanese eatery? Well I didn't either until I did a bit of researching for a new transit friendly Japanese restaurant and stumbled upon Shirakawa by Itoh Dining. It's a little window-ful restaurant tucked in right behind Coffeebar on Water Street; easily missed if not for the little sign on the street. For a Friday night, reservations weren't really necessary as maybe only half the tables were filled during our stay.

The Flying Pig ('Appy Hour)

Happy hour is everyone's favourite hour and what better place to enjoy cheaper food than at Vancouver's best "nouveau Canadian Bistro"- The Flying Pig. My friend and I decided to pay a little spontaneous visit to the Gastown location after we took a look at the chicken wing showdown happening just across at the Lamplighter. Even at 5pm, there's quite the crowd of people hanging about and that's all thanks to the amazing deal The Flying Pig has to offer with reduced prices on their appetizer menu and select drinks.
