As a Richmond native, Alexandra Road (Central Richmond) is basically my home and Cocoru is the newest addition to the Alexandra family. Unlike most restaurants in the area, this one is actually Korean run and has a fun and modern appeal; decorated with superhero figurines everywhere. However, it's hard to win over diners in an area that's packed with a whole lot of local favourites - in the whole 2 hours I spent in Cocoru, there were only 2 other parties.

2/5 - Ok so I felt completely cheated after seeing this arrive on my table. For 7 whole dollars, I was served fries that you would usually expect to get for free with an entree. They were limp, flavour-less (it wasn't even the slightest bit salty), and served with...ketchup. If you're going to charge someone $7 for a bowl of fries, you better do something good with it.

2.5/5 - Very average tacos. Yes, there's the cheese, the dip, and the peppers, but the chips weren't even crunchy and everything just felt very mediocre. Again, if you're going to charge a whooping 13 need some flair.

4.75/5 - Okay, now this is a dish that I enjoyed. The corn was served steaming on the hot plate and was cheesy and buttery at the same time. When it comes to corn cheese, I usually refer to Boom Beer's but I can safely say that this corn cheese is a step above due to all the flavour.

4.5/5 - Although Cocoru's appetizers came up short (really short), at least their star dish came out well. The Snowfall Chicken in particular, was very enjoyable. The skin was crispy, the meat was tender and juicy, and the sauce added a bit of saltiness and more texture. I'm usually not a big fan of fried chicken (unless it's from Boom Beer or LA Chicken) but this warm chicken really hit the spot on a cold Vancouver night. I only wish the skin was a bit crispier.

Cocoru is cute. The decor is modern and DC Comics inspired from their mounted pictures to displayed figurines. They're advertised for their beer and chicken - which turned out quite well, but I can't say the same about their carb appetizers. Unless you're dying for starch and carbs, don't order the fries or the tacos (and probably the poutine too at this rate) and focus more on the meats and corn. The fried chicken is good for sharing as each plate is quite large (and pricey) so I would recommend coming with a few friends to try different types of fried chicken and clink beer glasses.
