The new year rings in with new creameries, one which is Tangram Creamery on the corner of Arbutus and 12th in Vancouver. Facing the street with full-length windows, you can admire the beautiful and clean interior of the store which boasts of a large counter, a glossy wooden communal table, and rustic lights (which remind me of the ones from Ramenman). As of today, Tangram is still in the soft opening phase but they will be open for regular business in a few days (13th). They currently offer ice cream macarons, and ice cream by the scoop/pint.

Flavours offered at the time of this blog:

  • roasted coconut
  • matcha
  • black sesame
  • (very earl grey) london fog
  • guatemala coffee
  • raspberry sorbet (non-dairy)
  • mango sorbet  (non-dairy)

london fog: 4/5 - They weren't kidding when they said "very earl grey" - this ice cream is like a creamy concoction of tea leaves. Personally, I loved how strong the earl grey flavour. However, people who aren't too big a fan of straight up tea flavoured stuffwould probably prefer something sweeter. I think it might be more appropriate to call this "very earl grey" rather than "london fog" just because of how little sugar and milk flavour is in it.

However, to balance out the earthy and slightly bitter taste to the early grey, the cookie cone is ready to come to the rescue! It's thin, crunchy sweetness is a great complement to the ice cream.

mango sorbet: 4.5/5 - I'm not usually a fan of sorbet but DANG, this mango sorbet is bomb. For anyone who's been to Timothy's at Steveston, think of the frozen fruit yoghurt but less milky and more ice-y - it's kind of amazing. Unlike most other sorbets that taste artificial, this mango sorbet boasts of the natural sweetness of the mangos. Another big plus with the sorbet is that you can taste small chunks of real mango which adds to the overall fruitiness.

FINAL THOUGHTS

As they aren't officially open yet, prices and flavours may not be finalized but overall, I have good vibes from this place. Decent ice cream/sorbet for a decent price in a little store that is super cozy and welcoming. I'm not 100% sure, but after a bit of observation, Tangram Creamery looks like a family run business or something along the lines of that which makes the service that much more welcoming. Kinda like Glenburn Soda in Burnaby, a little girl will take your order at the counter and scoop your ice cream for you - and yes, this is is super cute too haha (not to sound creepy). I have high hopes that Tangram will join many of the other local creameris in being another favourite.
