Oh how I've been craving some good fried chicken and dessert lately. Thank goodness for my friends who venture restaurants out of my comfort area because I was able to experience some pretty darn good food a while ago in the city's biggest Koreatown-Lougheed!

대박!

대박!

We first hit up Dasarang Chicken, which quite obviously, specializes in Korean fried chicken. Without any hesitation, we flipped to the chicken menu and I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of fried chicken they offer. After some 15 minutes of deliberation, we finally picked the Half & Half ($18.95) and Sweet and Sour ($18.95) chicken. I'm not sure what we were thinking ordering one whole plate of fried chicken per person but we did it anyways. I'm the type that swears by alcohol and fried chicken so it was no surprise that I also ordered a bottle of Makgeolli (~$11). )(P.S. they come with the cutest cups too - 대박! Like the food I guess..)

The chicken came a while later and oh my goodness, I think my eyes were already full after seeing the portions. The Half & Half included half mildly spicy chicken and half normal fried chicken. The chicken is really fried to perfection - crisp skins and juicy insides. I was cleaning all the chicken bones. Same goes with the Sweet and Sour chicken (which was boneless by the way so no bone cleaning but my entire plate was clean by the end). With rice liquor and a hefty dose of very decent fried chicken, I'm pretty sure I would've fallen into a food coma if not for the fact we still had another place to eat at.

Somehow not dead yet from all the chicken, we got ourselves downstairs of the mall to Midam Rice Cake House. We couldn't really stuff much more into our stomachs than one dessert to share so we decided to go for a Mango Shaved Ice (~$12). It took longer than we expected to come but it did indeed come and we were able to enjoy it. This dessert comprises of classic shaved ice with red bean topped with pieces of mango, mochi, and a giant glob of mango ice cream. Surprisingly, the toppings overwhelmed the amount of shaved ice so I guess it's a good bargain? However, it's still a pricey dish, like most of the items on the menu.
